Lisbon can be cold and wet in the winter. If you live in London or Amsterdam it may seem warm and sunny but for us it is cold and wet. For relief, we like to travel in February to a warmer clime for two weeks. Two of our past trips have been to the Canary Islands for Carnival. This year it was decided to go further, to São Tomé. It is an island about 250 km west of Africa near the equator and a former Portuguese colony.
